100 YEARS OF ROYAL ALBERT: BEHIND THE COLLECTION

The colourful and playful 100 Years of Royal Albert collection is a very special one indeed. After a century of Royal Albert adding fun and flair to dining, afternoon tea and your morning cup of tea, we thought it was only right that we created a unique collection that reflected ten decades of pretty English floral design with an unashamedly feminine touch.

A century of playfullness

The 100 Years of Royal Albert collection is made up from archive inspired patterns that celebrate each decade that Royal Albert has gifted the world with beautiful fine bone china. Each archive pattern and shape has been chosen and embellished to create a collection of cheeky and contemporary pieces that embody the roots of Royal Albert and our love for playfulness. Each piece in the collection can be styled together to create a maximalist vintage vibe, being plain and simple just isn’t our thing.

The Royal Albert archives

Our incredibly talented designers dug deep into the colourful Royal Albert archives to find inspiration from traditional Royal Albert shapes and patterns. Gwyn Hilton, one of our senior Royal Albert designers was excited about the challenge “It’s always a pleasure to delve into the Royal Albert archive. Historically the archive is amazing and there are lots of floral styles over the 100 years that were recorded. To create a pattern from each decade inspired by these wonderful books was a great honour and lots of fun!”

Although each pattern is inspired by a different style era, every design in the collection is curated to complement the other decades. Together, these exuberant pattern combinations create the ultimate mix and match table setting that is super easy to create at home.

Some fabulous features

In true Royal Albert style, we of course created a collection that was crafted from the very best fine bone china, after all, tea tastes better from bone china. Here are some beautiful features you might not know about this quintessentially English collection:

  • Crafted from incredibly strong and durable fine bone china
  • Resistant to chipping and cracking
  • Each decorative element to the design is applied by hand using a process called lithography – a traditional method of design and colour application whereby the design is applied using transfer paper containing all the elements of the design. Once applied, the paper burns off in the kiln leaving behind the beautiful vibrant design on the china.
  • 22 Carat gold finish
  • Available in 10 fabulous designs
  • Hand washable
