This dainty, small size cream jug, crafted in fine bone china features the whimsical sea creatures which form part of designer Kit Kemp’s illustrative story of The Sailor’s Farewell. The two small dogs alone at sea, the whale and silvery fish are set against the pale blue finish which echoes her original fabric design. The piece is embellished with a deeper blue and hand-applied 22 carat gold trim and forms part of this novel collection, Kit Kemp’s second collaboration with Wedgwood based on her love of lyrical folk art. Backstamped for authenticity and presented in a charming Wedgwood blue gift box, this cream jug makes a special gift and forms part of the stylish tea ware used within The Whitby Hotel in New York and Ham Yard Hotel in London, co-owned by Kit Kemp.
Kit Kemp is an award-winning interior designer and co-owner of Firmdale Hotels. With a worldwide reputation for her unique and wonderful hotel interiors, she also lends her designs to textiles, fragrances and homeware, as well as being a published author. Kit Kemp has won many awards for her iconic designs.
Celebrated for her individual and original approach to design, Kit Kemp is a champion of British art, craft and sculpture. It was for this reason that Wedgwood approached her to create a collection of specially designed fine bone china.
Kit’s influences are often whimsical and lyrical, and usually contain a host of mythical animals. Hence, her Wedgwood collections feature a series of fantastical characters and surreal patterns that have a primitive feel.
