This stunning footed serving bowl, crafted in fine white bone china perfectly illustrates the whimsical story of The Sailor’s Farewell and its collection of motifs created by renowned designer, Kit Kemp. Originally designed as a fabric pattern, the bowl is finished in a pale blue linen-look echoing the original material. Against this is the Sailor’s loved-one in her yellow dress waving goodbye to the sailor with a red scarf flying in the wind as he sets off on a sea adventure to find an octopus, whale and other silvery fish on his way to an enticing house under a palm tree on a faraway desert island. Further embellished with a deeper blue and skilfully hand-applied 22 carat gold rim, this collection, Kit Kemp’s second with Wedgwood, brings her love of folkloric story-telling to life through this charming tableware. The entire collection is used in two of the boutique hotels which Kit co-owns in New York and London and each piece is backstamped for authenticity and presented in a Wedgwood blue signature box to make an ideal gift.

Kit Kemp is an award-winning interior designer and co-owner of Firmdale Hotels. With a worldwide reputation for her unique and wonderful hotel interiors, she also lends her designs to textiles, fragrances and homeware, as well as being a published author. Kit Kemp has won many awards for her iconic designs.

Celebrated for her individual and original approach to design, Kit Kemp is a champion of British art, craft and sculpture. It was for this reason that Wedgwood approached her to create a collection of specially designed fine bone china.

Kit’s influences are often whimsical and lyrical, and usually contain a host of mythical animals. Hence, her Wedgwood collections feature a series of fantastical characters and surreal patterns that have a primitive feel.
