Wedgwood X JW Anderson

Jonathan Anderson is an inspired creative partner for a bold new collaboration fueled by a shared passion for craftsmanship and design. This collection showcases a previously unproduced set of striking contemporary pieces from Lucie Rie, one of the most celebrated potters of the twentieth century, alongside a series of mugs inspired by fifth-century Greek works from Anderson’s personal collection.

MAKING HISTORY

Explore the character and craft behind the engine-turned mugs, designs inspired by fifth-century Greek pieces owned by Jonathan Anderson.

CRAFT FOCUS:
ENGINE TURNING

Turning is a harmonious blend of craftsmanship and technology. For this collection, each mug piece is placed on a turning machine, where it undergoes manual shaping and ribbing. This technique mirrors the method used in Lucie Rie’s work, where clay is shaped and left to dry before being carefully refined and smoothed on the turning machine to achieve a perfectly polished surface.

THE DOYENNE
OF BRITISH POTTERY

Austrian-born British studio potter Lucie Rie was a ceramic artist of the highest renown, famed for her innovative hand-thrown modernist pieces. Her unproduced set of designs for Wedgwood in 1964 have now been brought to life as part of the Wedgwood X JW Anderson collaboration.
