Sheila Bridges moved to Harlem, New York in 1993, looking to establish roots in a community rich in cultural heritage with significant contributions from talented African American creatives. Shortly after Sheila Bridges Design, Inc was born.In the years since, Sheila has been named America’s Best Interior Designer by Time magazine and CNN, and she is sought after to craft narrative rich interiors. Sheila is renowned for her much-admired design, Harlem Toile de Jouy, which has been recreated in many collaborations, now including Wedgwood.Sheila is passionate about Wedgwood's heritage and design, first being introduced by her mother, who gave her a black and white medallion which she wears as a necklace.
This collection features Sheila Bridges’ design, Harlem Toile de Jouy. The design takes inspiration from traditional French toile, reimagined to celebrate a complex history and rich culture, while exploring stereotypes and allowing expression of politics and art.
We spoke with Sheila to discover more about the wonderful new collection, the inspiration behind her well-known Harlem Toile design, and where her love of Wedgwood began.
