The main hero of the Renaissance Grey collection is the iconic cameo shape, the recognisable oval shape that is present throughout this fine bone china tableware collection. Our relationship with the cameo shape dates back to 1785 when Matthew Boulton designed Jasperware scent bottles for Wedgwood.
Cameos have existed since the Roman period, usually made from glass, and most typically depicted side profile portraits of important figures, or scenes from classical history. The most famous example of Roman cameo glass is the Portland Vase, which our founder Josiah Wedgwood replicated in Jasperware.
The Florentine pattern was first created in 1931, designed on a fine bone china body and characterised by an ornate border, intricately detailed with a cacophony of mystical creature and fantastical flora.
