Wedgwood Christmas Survey

With the circumstances that 2020 has thrust upon the world, Christmas, for many of us, may look very different than previous years.

With communities, families and friends having to adapt to the new normal, the team at Wedgwood wanted to gain further insight into the public perception surrounding Christmas this year, and how people will be choosing to celebrate in these unprecedented times.

Wedgwood’s Christmas survey asked the British public about how they might celebrate it in contrast to previous years and it delivered some interesting results.

Which part of Christmas day will people be investing more time in?

Of the 1,003 people surveyed, 42.2% said that this Christmas, they would be investing more time in a family Christmas dinner. 32.6% said they would be focusing on giving gifts to loved ones, 18.5% said Christmas games with the family, and 6.7% said Christmas drinks with the family.

In light of the events of 2020, will Christmas be more important to people this year than other years?

For this question of the survey, 38.1% of people said that yes, Christmas would be more important this year in comparison to other years. However, 61.9% said it would hold the same amount of importance.

51.3% of survey respondents said they would spend the same amount of money on Christmas presents this year as other years. 42.8% said less, and 5.9% said more.

Would people consider having their Christmas dinner while video calling family and friends?

For this question, 72.2% of respondents said they would not consider video calling their family and friends during Christmas dinner, where 27.8% said they would consider.

If family and friends and unable to visit this Christmas due to travel restrictions, what will people do?

Survey respondents here were presented a variety decoration scenarios for if their family and friends could not visit this Christmas due to travel restrictions. 45.5% said they would put up the tree and decorations as usual, 26.1% said they would spend more time making the perfect Christmas, 17.9% said they would not put up any Christmas decorations, and 10.5% said they would only put up a Christmas tree.

For this year’s Christmas dinner, will people consider a more contemporary mix and match theme to bring more personality to their Christmas tables?

For this question regarding Christmas dinner table style, 25.1% of respondents said they would consider a contemporary mix and match theme, whereas 74.9% said they would not.

For this year’s Christmas, will people consider serving their canapés on more contemporary serveware?

For this question, 83.2% said they would not consider serving their canapés on more contemporary serveware this year, whereas 16.8% said they would.
