It is now more than two centuries since Mason's Ironstone was founded. Charles James Mason's ?Patent Ironstone China', as it was named from 1813, was developed as a less expensive alternative to imported Chinese porcelain, the exclusive preserve of the well-to-do.
From the very earliest days, patterns were of Oriental inspiration to rival the prestigious imported ware, and the chinoiserie theme is still a prized feature.
