Blue Mandalay offers a rich store of gifts for any occasion. Six new pieces, including a two-handled vase, pot pourri and pierced bowl, have been added to an already extensive collection of tableware and giftware destined to add beauty to homes around the world.
Age-old ceramic skills are essential to the creation of Blue Mandalay, a traditional and much-loved Mason's pattern in a rich, exuberant palette of deep blues, pinks and gold. The patterns are applied by hand, and the rich enamel colours are later hand-painted onto the piece. The final ingredient is extravagant 22-carat gilding.
It is now more than two centuries since Mason's Ironstone was founded. Charles James Mason's ?Patent Ironstone China', as it was named from 1813, was developed as a less expensive alternative to imported Chinese porcelain, the exclusive preserve of the well-to-do.
From the very earliest days, patterns were of Oriental inspiration to rival the prestigious imported ware, and the chinoiserie theme is still a prized feature. This eastern magic, combined with distinctive shapes and superb quality, makes Mason's Ironstone instantly identifiable and highly collectable... although most lovers of Mason's would, of course, mention its sheer beauty.
