It is more than 225 years since Josiah Wedgwood 1 (1730-95) perfected this famous ware, but his success was hard won. There were thousands of recorded trials, hopes raised and dashed, before Josiah could pronounce himself pleased with his new finely-grained stoneware, capable of "receiving colours through its whole surface, in a manner which no other body, ancient or modern has been known to do".
Emphasising Wedgwood's attention to the finest detail and commitment to superior quality and presentation, Jasper was originally developed in the 1770's and continues to be an ever-popular favourite with collectors worldwide. Josiah Wedgwood himself felt it was one of his greatest achievements.
The Wedgwood Jasper collection features a specially polished finish to give a finer texture to the surface, offers a unique gifting and collecting choice, as well as the liberty to enhance a home with classic pieces that are beautiful and useful. Each piece use Wedgwood's rich design heritage as a reference point to add a sophisticated feel to any interior.
