Figurative Work

Wedgwood has a strong heritage in producing figurative ware in Black Basalt and Jasper. Frequently these figurative items have had classical themes.

Cupid & Psyche Figurines

The story of Cupid and Psyche represents an early version of the eternal tale of secret love. Cupid and Psyche figures have appeared in a number of guises from the early days of Josiah Wedgwood.

The Cupid and Psyche figurines reproduced for the 250th anniversary are made in black Jasper with raised white Jasper ornamentation.

Enamelling

The Wedgwood hand Enamelled product is produced by the application of enamel colours with a fine brush. Our artists paint a variety of subjects. The hand-enamelled items for the 250th anniversary collection revolve around floral subjects.

Pot Pourri Jar

The original of this stunning pot was created in 1820 in cane ware, a dry body invented by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1780s. Appearing as entry 636 in the Wedgwood Shape number One Book, this stunning pot pourri was described as being decorated with 'Enamelled Chinese Flowers in Colours'.
